Rice TAB.

A disruptive, innovative, sustainable and 100% circular new material for the building and contract sector made from rice husks.

At BIRDMIND, like birds building their nests, we make boards that eliminate the felling of trees, reducing CO2 emissions and preserving forest ecosystems.

EMPOWERING CHANGE.

Circularity, in our DNA. Our production model is based on the wisdom found in nature: using agricultural waste as raw material to create valuable products with a low environmental impact.

We have developed a fully automated production line in which we do not consume a single drop of water to produce our boards.

LEARNING
FROM NATURE.

Just as the wisdom of birds inspires us, our products are born from natural waste to create products that are resilient, adaptable and purposeful, with renewal that allows the simple to become extraordinary.

Just as nature transforms itself, we transform ourselves. We are a new way of doing things. A commitment.

What is Birdmind?

We are a Galicia-based project committed to developing circular materials. Inspired by nature, we give new life to agricultural waste to create sustainable solutions like RICETAB—our first circular board.

Birdmind was born in a small garage, driven by the vision of David Camba, a carpenter and designer. After years of research, we developed RICETAB: a sustainable board, free of formaldehyde, and designed for a future without deforestation.

Just like birds build their nests from what’s around them, we design materials using natural waste. We close the loop of resources to build a more balanced world.

We aim to position Galicia as a global benchmark in circular economy and sustainable materials. While RICETAB is our first product, we’re already developing new solutions in our lab.

What is RICETAB?

RICETAB is a circular, sustainable board made from rice husk. It’s free of formaldehyde and features fire-resistant, moisture-resistant, and antifungal properties—ideal for interior design and construction.

RICETAB avoids deforestation, offers uniform density and natural finish, emits very low CO₂, and can be recycled at the end of its life. It’s high-performance with zero environmental compromise.

Standard size is 2710 x 1360 mm, available in 16 mm and 19 mm thickness. We offer two certified product lines: RICETAB (Cs1d0) and RICETAB Plus (Bs1d0).

Everything you can create with traditional boards: furniture, cladding, decorative panels, and more. It even works well in acoustic applications when combined with absorbent materials.

We offer a take-back service. Once your RICETAB-based product reaches the end of its life, we collect and recycle it to reintroduce it into our production cycle. Full circle, literally.

How do I work with RICETAB?

It handles just like any wood-based board: cut, drill, sand, screw, glue, machine, or coat it using standard woodworking tools.

Absolutely. You can use stains, lacquers, microcements, veneers, or digital prints—whatever fits your design.

RICETAB is moisture-resistant but primarily designed for indoor use. Long-term exposure to direct weather isn’t recommended unless properly treated.

Not really. It only needs occasional cleaning, like any other furniture. If it has a finish, it may need refreshing over time depending on usage.

How is it transported and stored?

Boards come in packs (38 or 45 units depending on thickness), stacked flat on pallets, and wrapped in recycled cardboard. Store in a dry, covered space away from sunlight.

Yes, it is stable in humid environments thanks to its water-repellent properties. For wet areas (like bathrooms), we recommend a protective finish.

As a natural material, it may slightly change tone over time, especially with direct sunlight. A proper finish helps preserve its original look.

How is RICETAB made?

After nearly 3 years of R&D, we built a fully automated production line powered by 100% renewable energy. We eliminated water consumption, formaldehydes, and all deforestation processes.

We upcycle waste that would otherwise harm the environment. Each ton of RICETAB helps reduce emissions, prevents agricultural waste burning, and saves trees—contributing to the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Do you only work with rice?

Not at all. We’ve developed materials using grapevine trimmings, mussel shells, textile fibers, oat husks, barley waste, and more. If it’s a waste stream, we’ll explore it.

If you think your by-product has potential, tell us about it: laboratorio@birdmind.com

Can I get a sample?

Of course. Email us at cs@birdmind.com and we’ll find the best way to get it to you. We also work with platforms like Material Bank.

We’re building our distributor and collaborator network. In the meantime, just contact us at cs@birdmind.com.

No problem. If RICETAB fits your project, we’d love to hear more. Reach out and let’s talk.

Whether you’re a designer, distributor, manufacturer, or you generate interesting by-products, we’re always open to new synergies. Contact us at info@birdmind.com.
